Small World Vacations New York Adventure by Disney Day One

Time to set off on our Adventure!

Our magical Adventure Guide, Rebecca, leads the way on our first day of exploration in New York City.

There is so much to see and do in New York, where do you start? A great introduction to the city is a unique bus tour called “The Ride”. This is not anything like your typical hop-on hop-off bus tour. You sit in stadium style seats facing a giant window and the street is the stage.

As you make your way around Times Square, “random” New Yorkers outside the bus perform and interact with your group inside. The Ride tour guides shared fun facts and jokes as we passed by NY iconic landmarks including the Chrysler Building, Grand Central Station, and Columbus Circle. It was unique and humorous introduction to the city that never sleeps.

Good thing we had our Pipcorn to keep us going!

What’s more New York than pizza?

Our next stop was John’s Pizzeria in Times Square for lunch. This well-known restaurant is actually an old Gospel Tabernacle Church with a beautifully preserved stained glass ceiling that resembles the shape of a Pizza Pie.

Adventures by Disney had a space reserved for our group at this very popular eatery. A few of our agents from outside the area were treated to their first taste of authentic NY coal fired pizza.  Delicioso!  Photo by

In the afternoon, some agents took advantage of the unseasonably warm weather on a walking tour of Central Park led by Adventure Guides, Stefan and Rebecca. They learned about the history and discovered beauty of this urban landscape. Central Park is a natural treasure in the heart of an urban jungle. Photo by

In the evening our group traveled back in time at the Tenement Museum located in the Lower East Side of New York. Built in 1863, 97 Orchard Street was home to over 7000 immigrants until it was condemned in 1935. Rediscovered and preserved in the 1990s, it now serves as a time capsule into the lives of the hopeful individuals who sailed to America with dreams for a better life. They believed the streets were paved with gold.

We “met” the tenants (live actors) portaying actual immigrants from Ireland, Germany and Italy.  Mrs. Moore (1868), Mrs. Levine (1898) and Mrs Baldizi (1935) told us stories about their family, heritage and struggle to realize their dreams in New York. Afterwards, we sampled a menu of flavors from the old country prepared by ethic businesses still operating in the area today including the Pickel Guys, Katz's Deli, Russ & Daughters, Essex Street Market and Vanessa's Dumplings.  This living museum was an immersive and emotional experience that provided us with a rare peek into daily life 100 years ago. There was a great gift shop with a wide selection of books, gifts and clothing.

So much to dream about tonight!
